Yamanekoya is a Japanese workshop that turns writing instruments out of wood. It works dense timbers one at a time — African blackwood, ebony, Siamese persimmon, black persimmon, snakewood, karin.

Ballpoints and mechanical pencils are the mainstay, with thick barrels that have real weight. The refills follow widely available standards, so they can still be replaced once used up.
