These are the rules for using PencilDB (“this site”). By signing up you agree to them.
About this site
A database of writing-instrument part numbers, list prices and used prices, built by the people who use them. It is run by an individual and is free to use.
Accounts
- You can search and browse without an account
- You can try the collection and wishlist for up to 5 items without an account
- From the sixth item, an account is required
- Please register with accurate information, and do not impersonate anyone
- Please do not create more than one account for yourself
What you contribute
You may submit corrections to variants, sources and photos. What you submit is not published as-is. It appears after the operator has reviewed it.
- Only submit material you have the rights to. Do not post photos taken by others, or images from shopping sites, without permission
- Figures with no source may not be published. Please note where you saw the information
- Once published, variant details and sources remain part of the database. They stay after you leave, but the link showing who added them is removed
- Photos belong to whoever took them. If you close your account, your photos are deleted
About the price figures
Used prices are calculated from purchase prices reported by users. They are not a guarantee of what an item will sell for. Only the low, median and high are shown, and it is not possible to tell who paid what. When there is only one report we show nothing, because that figure would simply be one person's price.
List prices are taken from what manufacturers publish, but they may contain errors. Please verify for yourself before buying or selling.
Please do not
- Register false information
- Write things that harm other people
- Post photos or text you do not have the rights to
- Hit the site automatically at a volume that slows it down
- Break the law
If any of these happen, submissions or accounts may be removed.
The service may stop or end
Because it is run by one person, the site may go down without notice, change, or shut down entirely. The operator cannot accept liability for losses arising from this.
Please keep your own copy of anything important.
Advertising and affiliate links
Variant pages carry links under “Where to buy”. These are advertisements. If you buy through one, this site receives a commission from the retailer. It costs you nothing extra.
Commission never changes the order variants are listed in, or the price figures. The used-market figures are built only from what members declare they paid; shop prices are not mixed in. Prices, stock and product descriptions on the far side of the link belong to the retailer and are not warranted by this site.

Changes
When these terms change, this page is updated and the date at the top is changed.
