The company began in 1961 selling office stationery to businesses; Kakimori itself opened in Kuramae in 2010. The old trade was wound up in 2013, and in 2014 inkstand by kakimori — where ink is mixed to your own colour — followed. In 2017 the two moved together to the present address in Misuji, and from 2021 the firm turned decisively towards making its own goods and selling them abroad. What you come away with here is less a notebook than one you have specified: cover, paper and binding chosen and bound while you wait, and an ink whose colour you settled on at the counter. Its own small notebooks are on the shelves too. The visit is the point — a place to have writing things made rather than picked, and a common stop for anyone hunting a present.
